There are three different procedures designed to rejuvenate the neck. In each case, they serve to reduce fullness in the neck and the sagging of the skin and muscles, commonly a result of heredity or the aging process. Neck Lift surgery is most often performed at the same time as a Face Lift.
The Neck Lift or cervicoplasty is ideal for patients with poor skin elasticity who may require the removal of excess skin. The second procedure is called a platysmaplasty, in which the surgeon repairs the superficial neck muscles responsible for a poorly defined neckline and/or noticeable bands in the neck. The platysmaplasty can be done alone or in conjunction with a Neck Lift.
The third procedure, Neck Liposuction reduces fullness in the neck by suctioning out excess fatty deposits. This can be done on the whole neck or simply beneath the chin. The Neck Liposuction may also be combined with a cervicoplasty.
There are many ways to create a more aesthetic neckline with many of the fine points determined by individual anatomy and personal preferences. An isolated Neck Lift requires incisions behind the ears similar to a facelift, with repositioning of the tissues and removal of excess skin. Platysmaplasty is performed through a 2-3 cm incision beneath the chin. Neck Liposuction is carried out through a very small incision beneath the chin or in the crease behind the earlobes. These procedures can be completed in as little as one hour and as long as three hours depending on the specific operation.
Recovery time: Two weeks. Sutures out in one week.
