December 30, 2011 My friend and I are having a disagreement about which part of the face a person focuses on first, when they look at you. I say the nose is predominant and she thinks it is our eyes. We thought we’d consult a facial plastics specialist to see who is correct. First of all, you are both correct in that people tend to look at us from the top down, meaning that they look at our face first, before they see our bodies. Your friend is going to win this argument because eyes top the list for being the most noticeable feature on anyone's face. It has often been said that 'eyes are the windows of the soul' and that is why we can tell if someone is sad or happy before they've even uttered a word. It is interesting to note that crow's feet around the eyes are the first area of the face to show signs of aging. This is partly because they are smile lines and also because our face is experiencing an overall decrease in volume. Significant changes affecting the size and shape of eye sockets as well as the angle of the bones beneath our eyebrows contribute to the formation of crow's feet. Simple maintenance such as getting enough rest, eating properly to keep our skin healthy, as well as a regular regime using quality skin care products can keep a twinkle in your eyes and crow's feet to a minimum. It is possible to look people in the eye with confidence even as you age! |
